METROPOLIS, IL (WSIL) -- Sunday is the day set aside each year to celebrate Mom and three mothers took advantage of the weather to have a Mother's Day adventure, including three women from Missouri stopping in Metropolis to visit Superman.

"We were coming back from Nashville, TN, and I looked up the world's largest Superman attraction," said Blayly Smith.

Three women, three mothers, took the time on a beautiful Mother's Day to get away and enjoy each other's company.

"I say, you know, you guys are the best moms I've ever met in my life," said Carla Caldwell.

Caldwell and her daughters Arleva and Blayly Smith are from Missouri and stopped in Metropolis on this Mother's Day adventure Sunday afternoon to visit Superman.

"Taking a week of just being able to find ourselves and get away, that was our big thing for Mother's Day," said Blayly Smith.

Caldwell has been a mom for 43 years. She has four children, and for Mother's Day, she decided to go on an adventure with two of them, Blayly and Arleva.

"None of them are the same, and I just learned to love them except them who they are because they're just people and individuals," said Caldwell.

With all her children grown, Caldwell says she's learned to appreciate their company differently.

"We can joke around. We can kid with each other," said Caldwell. "We're just talking about down the way down how we can joke around, say things and we don't get upset and we know have that memories."

Arleva became a mother for the first time 12 years ago. She now has two kids of her own. She's also the self-described baby of the family, and much of her parenting has come from the lessons she's learned from her parents and older siblings.

"Just as a middle-aged mom starting it was challenging for me, and I think it's challenging for all new mothers, but I had a good support system, and my family was there to encourage me to help me, and give me good life lessons," said Arleva Smith.

Her sister Blayly became a mom for the first time seven years ago and now has three boys. She says her mom was her greatest influence and taught her so much about being a mom.

"She is an amazing role model," said Blayly. "She is the one who taught me how to raise my kids, and even when I'm having a rough day, she just says, breathe and get through it, and everything will be okay.

And seeing her kids grow into amazing mothers of their own is the crowning achievement for Caldwell.

They're amazing mothers," she said proudly. "They learn by trial and error, and they'll call me up and say, 'Hey, guess what mom? What do you think?

"I give them advice, but they have to figure stuff out on their own. But they've just been amazing. I'm proud of each one of them."
