Multiple fire departments respond to garden center fire at Walmart in West City

WEST CITY, (WSIL) � The West City Police Department said multiple fire crews responded to Walmart in West City on Sunday at 8:19 a.m. for a fire in the garden center.

Police said one section was fully engulfed with smoke when crews arrived. Employees and customers were also evacuated from the store.

Fire and police went in and made an assessment and said they found no foul play or any intentional wrongdoing to have caused the fire.

Police said a heater placed near charcoal is believed to have been the cause of the fire.

There were no injuries reported and the fire was contained quickly thanks to the fast response of fire crews.

Employees were allowed back into the store, and Walmart reopened to the customers later in the day.
