CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Southern Illinoisans will soon have a new place to frolic with their four legged friends.
A new dog park will be in Carbondale this summer!
The Egyptian Board of Realtors has donated $5,000 to the Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks to add running water.
They'll add a pavilion, fencing and landscaping so dogs have recreational opportunities.
Jane Adams, President of Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks, says it will fill a void.
"I know students have come and said, 'where's the dog park?' and we haven't had one except small ones with apartment complexes and things like that, but this will be the first public one and we really really need it, all of us dog lovers."
Adams says the park will be one of the largest in the region, spanning almost two and a half acres in what is already Parrish Park.
