SALINE COUNTY (WSIL) -- A Joliet teacher shared how he's proud of the thoughtfulness from one of his former students toward an injured owl.
High School teacher Daniel Beal is originally from Harrisburg and works with special needs students. One of his former Harrisburg students, Kain West, he has kept in close contact.
Beal said West is a recovery specialist and was driving his work truck when an owl flew into the front of his vehicle. Instead of continuing, West stopped, jumped out, and wrapped the disoriented owl in his only jacket. He then placed the owl in his recovery vehicle to take the owl to an emergency vet.
On the way to the vet, West video called his wife who said she could not believe what she saw. The owl allowed West to pet it. When the Owl came around, West opened his passenger door and the owl eventually flew out and back to safety.
She said her husband has been an animal lover all of his life. Honey bees always land on him and even deer have let him pet them.
Beal said in these trying times it's good to remember there are nice, decent, and caring people out there. Something as simple as checking on a possibly hurt animal not only teaches West's children but others to be thoughtful of humans and animals alike.
