PADUCAH, KY. (WSIL) -- Many would like to see improvements in their neighborhoods. Now, residents and business owners in the city's southside have the opportunity to voice just what they would like to see done.
Mayor George Bray and the board of commissioners are holding two town hall meetings to hear why those in the community call the area come, concerns and possible solutions.
This is part of a strategic plan to see growth in Paducah and includes 12 priority items:
- 911 radio/tower upgrades and operational funding
- Minority inclusion
- Downtown development
- Stormwater infrastructure
- Southside enhancements
- Sports facilities/ the Outdoor Sports Complex
- Remote workers incentive program
- Communications enhancement
- City facilities
- Developing a plan for the Parks and Recreation Building and Fire Station No. 4.
- Housing
- Annexation/planned growth.
Mayor Bray explains why that section of the city was chosen by him and the board to be a key point.
"The Southside is a large section of Paducah with a rich history," he said in statement to News 3. "It encompasses several neighborhoods and commercial corridors. "
City leaders do have a few ideas on what they would like to see happen such as focusing on infrastructure, beautification efforts, tearing down delipidated buildings as well as creating an incentive program for businesses and homeowners.
However, Bray and the commissioners say the main point of these town hall meetings is to listen and connect with those who live, work and have ties to the area.
"We are looking for themes which will help us focus our efforts, make connections, and develop partnerships.," he continued. "Our role as a City government is to gather people, spur community-led enthusiasm, and stimulate development."
Each meeting will be at Soirées Events & Catering located at 2069 Irvin Cobb Drive. The first is Thursday, March 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The next will be exactly a week from that on Thursday, March 11 at the same place and time.
Attendees are expected to wear a face mark and respect social distancing.
