WASHINGTON (AP) -- A resurgent Joe Biden scored wins across the country with the backing of a diverse coalition, and progressive rival Bernie Sander seized Super Tuesday's biggest prize with a win in California.
It came as the Democratic Party's once-crowded presidential field transformed into a two-man contest.
The two Democrats were battling for delegates as 14 states and one U.S. territory held high-stakes presidential primary elections.
Biden took Arkansas, Alabama, Minnesota, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia, while Sanders also won Colorado, Utah and Vermont.
The other two high-profile candidates still in the shrinking field, Mike Bloomberg and Elizabeth Warren, were teetering on the edge of viability.
