MARION, IL (WSIL) - Allison Tate is getting some sweet treats at Granny Puckett’s.
She says she is excited to see the new developments in Marion.
"Oh it's great, I love it, like it just gives us things to do instead of going to the same thing," Tate says.
Marion's business economy is in the midst of a change. Many people in the area are anticipating for the New Olive Garden to open, and for new business to come to the area including Bonnie McMillan who visits Marion a lot.
"And I'm sorry to see some of them closing like Mackie's, the more business we have the better it is for the community," McMillan says.
And the executive director for Marion’s Chamber of Commerce Karen Mullins says,Ìý Marion is in a time of growth and transition.
"You're gonna have a lot of development and businesses re-evaluating what their future is gonna be within the community," Mullins says.
But with all of the growth, there are also businesses closing in Marion. That includes 17th Street Barbecue and Mackie's Pizza.
"And we're really disappointed to lose some of our local businesses, but we're really excited that they're still a part of our regional business community,� Mullin says.
“Their customers are gonna be able to reach them in other markets as well as here in Marion.
"Tate shared earlier that while she likes to shop locally it's good to have a mix to pick from.
"It is nice to have some of the chain restaurants especially because for us to go to some of those, they're like an hour away,â€� Tate says.Ìý“And so it's kinda give and take with having the small businesses and commercial businesses."
Mullins also shared its importance to support the area's businesses throughout their stages.
"And it's up to all of us to support them and provide guidance, and help them make their dreams come true," Mullins says.
