MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (WSIL) -- A McCracken County resident is asking drivers to "slow down," after multiple incidents occurring on the same road related to speeding.
A crash this past Saturday sent the driver to the hospital with serious injuries, leading a resident on Lovelaceville Road to take action. She placed several signs in her front lawn, claiming "10 wrecks," "20 damaged mailboxes," and one dead dog are the result of speeding.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff's office, so far this year, six accidents have taken place in the neighborhood, prompting the department to place a radar trailer near the site.
"Hopefully bring that awareness to people as they're traveling along, they don't realize they're going that fast and they see their speed flashing on a big sign in front of them, hopefully that makes them realize, 'Hey, I need to slow down,'" explains Ryan Norman, McCracken County Chief Deputy. "So, we can maybe prevent some of these accidents or the dogs getting hit or the mailboxes getting hit."
The Sheriff's department says the county has had approximately 500 crashes so far this year which, is fewer than the previous two years.
The department has asked deputies to drive by the area between calls to help increase their presence and provide another deterrent to speeding through the area.
