SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (WSIL) -- A destructive storm system swept through Scott County, Missouri, on Friday, May 16, leaving a trail of devastation and heartbreak.
The Scott County 911 Emergency Service Board stated there are emergency responders and public works crews continuing to address the situation, with many buildings and properties severely damaged.
Two people tragically lost their lives due to injuries sustained from the storm. Additionally, at least 10 people suffered various injuries and are receiving medical care.
Community members also came together to support those affected by the storm. The Scott County 911 Emergency Service Board said they are truly grateful for all the assistance received.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant for dangers such as debris and hazardous elements, including downed power lines. Travel with caution as crews continue to work in the area.
The City of Miner Convention Center at 2610 East Malone Avenue in Sikeston is open for those without shelter. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced families in coordination with Scott County.
