ELDORADO (WSIL) -- The family of 33-year old Chase Mitchell is staying strong as more residents joined the search.

The family has been holding search groups at Mahoney Park to search for Chase, who was on April 15.

Mitchell's cousin Sandy Bonilla has maps laid out on her coffee table, highlighted with spots where volunteers have already knocked on doors.

One of those helping is Gia Wright, the founder, and president of the Missing Persons Awareness Network. On Wednesday, May 20 she drove more than five hours from Chicago to assist the family.

Wright said Mitchell's case should be listed as 'endangered' rather than 'missing' because of his mental disabilities. "He’s legally diagnosed as mild retardation and he’s got ADHD," said Mitchell.

Classifying it as an endangered case would allow law enforcement to put more resources into the search, such as phone tracking Wright says. The family plans to meet with the police and share this information in hopes of finding more help.

The family will continue holding search groups every day starting at 4 p.m. and lasting until 7:30 p.m. Those interested in helping in the search can join in. Volunteers can also visit the group's page for more info.
