MAYFIELD, Ky. (WSIL) -- A suspect is in custody after telecommunicators texted a woman after her 911 calls failed; after what was described as a domestic abuse situation in a moving vehicle.
Kentucky State Police Post 1 said they received multiple 911 calls from someone on March 7, at 7:08 a.m. Police said the telecommunicators were not able to hear the person making the 911 calls though.
At this point, telecommunicators then texted her through their computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
State police said the woman they were texting was physically assaulted and the suspect was in the vehicle with her. KSP also said the female caller was pregnant, along with claiming the suspect was intending to crash the vehicle to cause damage to the woman and unborn child.
After more text messages, telecommunicators were able to find out their location, even though the female caller had her glasses broke during an assault and couldn't see, KSP detailed.
Using Rapid SOS and Rapid Deploy, telecommunicators were able to map the vehicle and see live data as the vehicle continued.
KSP Troopers, along with Fulton County Sheriff's Department, then responded and stopped the vehicle along I-69, about two miles above the Tennessee state line. Joshua Keeling, 25 of Fulton, Kentucky, was identified as the suspect and was arrested and charged with 4th-degree Assault, KSP stated.
On staff were four telecommunicators during this time.
"The quick actions of Telecommunicators Newsome, Ramage, Cooper, and Spain, and the technology of 10-8 Systems, Rapid SOS and Rapid Deploy saved a life this past Friday," KSP Post 1 Public Safety Telecommunication Manager Gary Fraser said.
