RANDOLPH CO. (WSIL) -- A teen without a valid drivers license loses control of the SUV she was driving killing a teen passenger and sending a child passenger to the hospital.
According to Illinois State Police (ISP) the crash happened on Sunday at 1:20 p.m. as the 15-year-old was driving a 2003 Silver Chevrolet SUV East on Moffet Road near Valley Steel Road.
A preliminary investigation by ISP finds that the teen from Coulterville had been driving too fast for conditions and lost control in gravel. The vehicle then went off the roadway to the left and overturned.Â
She was ejected from the SUV and flown to a regional hospital with life threatening injuries.
The driver's 14-year-old front passenger, of Cutler, who had been partially ejected from the vehicle. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, a 5-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The girl is also from Coulterville like the driver.
Authorities cited the driver for no valid drivers license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt and failure to secure a child in a child restraint.
ISP says this crash is still under investigation.
