CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- SIU held its third regional Illinois Design Educators Association competition.
75 students from six local high schools were given an hour and a half to create computer-based drafting designs.
The top two winners in each of the 10 events will qualify for a state competition.
While on campus, the high school students also received tours of the school of architecture and learned about its programs.
Administrative coordinator, Scott Frisch, says this event is an opportunity for real-world experience.
"These students all are learning these softwares that will be necessary if they decide to go on to a school of architecture, to be able to do what they need to do from that point on. And I think it's an important part of their development," he said.
The state competition will be held at Illinois State University on April 18th.
