METROPOLIS, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- Halloween is now in the books, and News 3 is already looking to Veterans Day.Ìý
This year, there's a new event coming to the region. It's a softball tournament taking place at the Metropolis Sports Park.
Organizers are looking for teams to come out, play, and raise funds for a good cause. The entry fee is $200, and the winning team will get 30% of the pot.Ìý
The game is in memory of Sergeant 1st class Gregory Strong. He served in the military for 25 years being deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Strong also spent lots of time trying to help other vets by working at the Marion VA Medical Center and volunteering at the VFW.
Proceeds from the tournament will also be donated to . An organization that brings awareness to veteran suicide while helping vets who are battling depression and PTSD.Ìý
The tournament is taking on Saturday, November 11th starting at 9 a.m.Ìý
