2 dead, 1 injured after three-vehicle crash in Hamilton County

MCLEANSBORO, Ill. -- Two people are dead and another fighting for their life, after a three-vehicle crash near McLeansboro on Tuesday evening.

Illinois State Police (ISP) said it happened at 5:32 p.m. along Illinois Route 14 west of Waverly Road near 10 Mile Road in Hamilton County.

ISP Troop 9 responded to the scene where they said a vehicle was driving east on Route 14 and attempting to pass multiple vehicles when it hit another vehicle who was going west on Route 14.

A third vehicle nearby was then damaged by debris from the crash.

Both the driver and passenger of the eastbound vehicle were dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound vehicle was air lifted to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed down for hours while emergency workers were on scene. The roadway reopened at 11:15 p.m.
