27-year-old Murphysboro man dead after crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- A 27-year-old man is dead after a car crashed on Tuesday morning in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said it happened on January 2, at 7:40 a.m. at Town Creek Road and Worthen Cemetery Road in the rural part of Murphysboro.

The sheriff’s office said a black 2002 Mitsubishi was going east on Town Creek Road when it went off the road on the right side, hit a driveway culvert and flipped over multiple times.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said the driver was Kyle Lee Thompson, 27 of Murphysboro, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.

Assisting with the crash was the Jackson County Ambulance Service, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, the Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Protection District, and the Murphysboro Fire Department.
