NEW MADRID, Mo. (WSIL) -- Four people are dead after a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported the crash happened at 4:35 p.m. on December 17, along Route U, roughly half-a-mile west of New Madrid.
MSHP stated a 41-year-old male was driving a 2015 Jeep when the driver lost control, crossed the center line and hit a 2004 Dodge Stratus, driven by a 17-year-old female.
There were two others in the Jeep, which were a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old, state police reported.
Missouri State Highway Patrol later confirmed the 41-year-old in the Jeep was an off-duty deputy with the New Madrid County Sheriff's Office.
All three in the Jeep and the 17-year-old in the Stratus, were all reported to be from Lilbourn and all were wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, according to a crash report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
All four were pronounced dead at the scene by the New Madrid County coroner.
MSHP reported this as the 69, 70, 71 and 72 death related to a traffic incident for 2024 for the southeast Missouri area.
The New Madrid County School District also released a statement to parents and guardians about the sudden loss of their two students.
