7 tornadoes hit region on May 16; more areas to be surveyed from tornado outbreak

PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- Teams with the National Weather Service were out this weekend surveying tornado damaged paths after the storms hit the region on May 16 across Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky.

Here's a breakdown of some of the preliminary reports...

Illinois

  • Just south of Marion, Illinois, survey teams found a tornado had at least EF3 winds of 165 mph.
  • In the southeast portion of Saline County, an EF1 tornado hit with 90 mph wind damage.
  • In far southeast Saline County and into Gallatin County, an EF2 tornado hit with 115 mph wind damage.

Missouri

  • In eastern Stoddard County into Scott County, an EF3 tornado hit with 152 mph wind damage.
  • in northern Scott County, a brief EF 1 tornado with 110 mph wind damage
  • In western Cape Girardeau County, an EF2 tornado hit with 125 mph wind damage.

Kentucky

  • In Morganfield, an EF3 tornado hit with peak winds of 155 mph

In Williamson County, the sheriff’s office earlier the tornado caused significant damage to a mile plus wide path from Grassy Road at Wolf Creek Road on the west side of the County and Saraville Road at Stonefort Road on the east side of the County. This tornado is to blame for at least seven injuries in Williamson County.

In Scott County, the National Weather Service gave a breakdown of the EF3 tornado which killed two and injured at least 10 people. The tornado had a 16 mile -ong track which started in eastern Stoddard County along County Highway Y It damaged roof of a house in Stoddard County. In Scott County, it damaged 10 power poles and damaged or destroyed numerous homes along Sloanville Drive before moving east and damaging more structures and trees.
