CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The ongoing construction on the new Amtrak station in Carbondale has caused the current station's parking lot to close.

According to the city's government, the entire lot is closed. However, the drop off and pick up lane in front of the current station will remain open during the closure.

Those looking to leave their car at the train station may park it at the City Hall parking lot for free. This is the lot on the North West corner of Route 51 North and 13 East.

Officials expect the closure to last about three weeks.

"We greatly appreciate your patience with us for any inconvenience this may cause with travel plans. Thank you for your continued support with this project," said the Carbondale government.
