BENTON, Ill. -- Students at a local elementary school donated thousands of items to their local food pantry this week.
The Benton Grade School classroom delivered more than 5,000 items to the Benton/West City Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry recently.
"I am so proud of our students and families who came together to help our community," said Ellen Gibbs of Benton Grade School. Â
Upon seeing the pantry was very low on food, Benton Grade School's student council took it upon themselves to organize a food drive. Today's drop off was the school's second load in a few short weeks.Â
The food pantry's holding area has been filled up twice due to the school's donations.Â
