FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- A man from Benton received a lengthy jail time for inappropriate sexual crimes to a child he committed in 2023.

Robert B. Hodges, 35, of Benton, was issued 47 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Thursday, May 23. According to the Franklin County State's Attorney Abby Dinn, Hodges faced one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. This was deemed a Class X Felony.

The case began on July 5, 2023 when the child's mother reported Hodges' crime to law officials. Hodges received his charge by July 11.

No progress was seen on the case until February 21 of this year when Hodges pled guilty to the charge.

Honorable Judge Tedeschi will require Hodges to serve at least 85% of the 47 years. Following his release, Hodges must complete three years of mandatory supervised release, or patrol. He must also join the sex offender list for the rest of his life.

Attorney Dinn worked alongside the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the Illinois State Police Metro-East Forensics Laboratory and the Franklin Williamson Child Advocacy Center for this investigation.
