CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The city of Carbondale has announced more operational information for the week of the eclipse.

As previously reported, the city's recycling schedule will shift one day starting on Tuesday.

The next big change planned is the closure of the Revenue Office on Monday. The office will not allow patrons to walk into the center for bill payments. Instead,  the city has provided the following options:

  • Online via the city's
  • A dropbox outside the City Hall
  • In-person payment on April 9

The final eclipse effect Carbondale wants its residents to know is the plan to drain the city's hydrants. Following Monday's eclipse, the city will flush and inspect hydrants at the following locations:

  • South Illinois and West Grand Avenues
  • South Oakland Avenue and West Chautauqua Street
  • South Wall and East Park Streets

Officials say low water pressure or discoloration is not a concern for drinking water. However, residents should wait to do laundry if water is discolored.

The hydrant work will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays beginning Tuesday.
