BENTON, Ill. -- Traffic is delayed on major highways in southern Illinois and in Missouri.
The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency (FCEMA) is reporting traffic delays along I-57 Southbound. They stated traffic has slowed to a standstill in some locations throughout Franklin County.
The FCEMA urges motorists to take alternative routes of travel.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is reporting major traffic heading south towards southeast Missouri.
MODOT reported traffic was backed up for about 25 miles going south in St. Louis and Jefferson Counties on Monday morning. This traffic is heading towards the area where the total solar eclipse will cross into the Cape Girardeau area just before 2 p.m.
A rest area near Fruitland in Cape Girardeau County at the 110 mile marker was also reportedly closed due to full parking.
