EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) There's new information on an explosion investigation that started in Evansville on Thursday.

Officials were originally c just after 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon after a loud explosion was reported in the area.

We now know the explosion was caused by a modified device that started out as a firework, according to EPD. They say the device is considered an "improvised explosion device," or an IED.

In addition to that first device, EPD says a second device was found nearby in the same area, but that the second device had not gone off. The EPD Hazardous Device Unit was at the scene, and rendered that device safe.

Through the investigation, officers say they determined that a home on Delmar Avenue may be involved with the explosion.

A search warrant was served at that home, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old Robert Kuhen on meth, marijuana, and paraphernalia charges, EPD said.

At this time, no one has been arrested in connection to the IED explosion, but EPD says the investigation is still active.

EPD says the public should remember, that modified devices like the ones used here are not only very dangerous - but also illegal.

Anyone who might have information on the incident is being asked to contact police.
