First responders receive awards for saving man's life in Pope County

GOLCONDA, Ill. (WSIL) -- Multiple first responders in Pope County received awards after saving a life of a man during an emergency in June of 2024.

A special ceremony was held on November 2, in Golconda to award the first responders.

Multiple firefighters, members with the Pope County EMS and the Pope County Sheriff's Office received the life-saving awards.

The incident took place in June. The Rural Fire Protection District stated an person lost his life, however, first responders were able to revive him twice and keep him alive with the use of CPR and an AED.

The man whose life was saved was Darrin Barton. Barton was then sent to a hospital where they continued treatment.

Darrin and his wife Laurie were also on hand at the event to hand the awards to the first responders and thank them.
