Franklin County man sentenced for sexual assault of a child, four others sentenced

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- A man previously convicted of the sexual assault of a child has been given a sentence. 

Douglas Carpenter, 73, of Christopher, Illinois, received a sentence Thursday afternoon of 41 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentence comes as a result of one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, according to the Franklin County State's Attorney. 

Carpenter was originally found guilty of the crime in October of 2023 by a jury. 

Three other convictions were completed on Thursday along with Carpenter. These outcomes are detailed below:

  • Charles S. Hargett, 63, of Thompsonville -- 18 months for Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer
  • Wesley A. Miller, 36, of West Frankfort -- 11 years for Possession of 15-100 grams of Methamphetamine
  • Candice L. Singleton, 46, of Logan -- 4 years for Residential Burglary
