CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- A heat advisory is in place for much of the region on Saturday from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Heat indexes are expected to reach well into the triple digits for a large portion of the area. The heat index could reach up to 109 degrees in certain locations.

This heat advisory includes portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky and southeast Missouri.

People are urged to drink plenty of fluids and stay in air-conditioned facilities. You are also urged to stay out of the sunlight and check on any relatives and neighbors during this time.
