ZEIGLER, Ill. -- The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating a basement fire in Zeigler that occurred Friday night.

The Zeigler Fire Department first responded to the fire at 802 Maple St. at 11:47 p.m. Officials first noticed a fire on the back corner of the home outside of the basement door.

Fire officials quickly attended to the flames and managed to keep them from entering the main home.

A report on the fire said the basement experienced smoke damage with a pile of rubbish forming near the basement door.

Officials say no people were injured in the fire.

The Fire Marshal has taken over the investigation to find a cause.

The Royalton and Christopher Fire Departments provided additional aid at the scene.
