HERRIN, Ill. -- Police have revealed the victim's identity from last Saturday's death investigation in Herrin.

Illinois State Police confirmed to News 3 on Saturday morning that Virginia L. Melton, 58, of Herrin was killed on Saturday, July 13, after a man is alleged to have shot her multiple times in a home in Herrin.

According to previous reports from the ISP, police arrived at the home to find Melton already dead. Tyler Mezo, 38, of Herrin, was taken into custody as the prime suspect in this situation.

At this time, it is unclear if Mezo has scheduled a court date. He remains innocent until he is found guilty by a judge and jury.
