Kentucky Car Chase arrest

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. -- Officials arrested a man after a lengthy car chase on US 45 on Sunday morning.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office learned of the chase at 3:40 a.m. from Kentucky State Police. Deputies quickly joined McCracken County officials on the chase of a dark car southbound on US 45 toward Graves County.

Deputy Tyler Jones put out Stop Sticks near Vaugh Road in hopes of stopping the fleeing car. The sticks deflated the front tires of the car. This did not stop the car, though. Officials say the car kept driving until losing control and coming to a stop on the median near US 45 at KY 1241.

According to a release on the incident, the suspect ran away from the deputies following him. Eventually, officials managed to catch the suspect and arrest him.

Authorities identified the suspect as Donald Sweatt, 22, of Louisville. Deputies say Sweatt was found under the influence. McCracken County officials arrested Sweatt before Graves County EMS brought him to Mercy Health in Paducah.

Officials have now lodged Sweatt at the McCracken County Jail on the following charges from Graves County:

  • Fleeing and Evading Police, Motor Vehicle
  • Fleeing and Evading Police, on Foot
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Several Traffic Charges
