Martin police investigating gunshots at UTM

MARTIN, Tn. -- Police are investigating gunshots that occurred Thursday night at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Police have not yet determined who is responsible for the shots and have made no arrests. No injuries have been reported. 

The gunshots were heard around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at 201 Hannings Ln. at University Village Phase 1 Building B. Police found shell casings on the third floor of the building, confirming the reports of shots. 

The campus was placed under a shelter-in-place warning until around 1:00 a.m. Friday.

Those living in the building were interviewed throughout the night for information and mental check-ins.

The investigation is still ongoing. Police ask anyone with information regarding the gunshots to contact the UTM Department of Public Safety at 731-881-7777, the Martin Police Department at 731-587-5355 or CrimeStoppers at 731-587-2611.
