JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. -- One person is dead and another injured after crews respond to a house fire near Waltonville on Wednesday morning.
Multiple area fire departments and emergency personnel responded to the fire call.
The Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse tells News 3 the fire happened on Vermont Lane. This is east of the Waltonville area.
Hayse confirms one person was found dead in the house fire and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department said a second person was air-lifted out for injuries sustained from the fire.
The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending family notification.
Hayse said the State Fire Marshal is investigating.
