One hospitalized, one escapes, after house fire in Marion

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities are investigating a house fire which resulted in one person taken to an out-of-state hospital.

Marion Fire Chief Tim Barnett tells News 3 the fire took place at a home in the 1200-block of S. Vicksburg on Thursday morning at around 4:50 a.m.

Barnett said two people were inside the home when the fire happened. A woman managed to get out of the home without any injuries, however, Barnett said the man had severe injuries and was later taken to a burn unit at a hospital in St. Louis.

The fire caused significant damage to the home and fire officials said the house is a total loss.

Both Marion Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal are investigating.

Assisting at the scene was Marion Police Department, Herrin Fire Department, United Ambulance and Ameren.
