PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. -- The Pinckneyville Public Library is asking for help in raising funds to pay back the city for renovations after suspected criminal damage.

The library owes $2,500 to the city council after required renovations to windows in the children's room. The library took to on January 7th to let patrons know about suspected vandalism that destroyed the building's original windows. On February 29, the team announced on Facebook the windows had been fixed, but at a cost.

The city of Pickneyville gave the library a pass and covered the cost of the windows. However, they expect the money back. After the February 29th post, in which the library needed to pay the city $5,000, the group updated the public on March 1 that the mayor agreed to waive half the cost from the library.

"The library is still planning out fundraising strategies because $2,500 is a sizeable chunk of funds to take out of our budget in a short amount of time," wrote the library on .

In the last week, the library has continued to ask its patrons for help fundraising.  Joe's Pizza and Taps & Vine Social House have agreed to run fundraisers in their restaurants, giving a portion of proceeds to the cause.

The most recent post from the library came on Monday afternoon. The library has until April 30 to raise the money for the city.
