The issue raises the question of what to do with the dogs and cats currently in the shelter. According to Rye, the roughly 60 dogs and 20 cats need to find forever homes or other shelters to stay at, or else they will face euthanasia.Â
The shelter has yet to issue a statement on the supposed closure. However, a neighboring community has responded to the reports.Â
The Perry County Humane Society of IL at 11:17 on Saturday morning stating its sadness over the reports. However, the post went on to say that this shelter is not doing much better than the Humane Society.Â
"We will be meeting to crunch our numbers and our resources to see if we can help their current animals, but we have to face the sad reality that this is a problem we could also face," read the Perry County shelter's post.Â
The post went on to reassure community members the Perry County shelter has plans for fundraising. Still, the shelter is in trouble.Â
"To be frank, we have no other options than to beg and plead while we wait for these funding to come through for us," wrote Perry County.Â
The common theme in these posts is the request for the community to rise to the occasion and help the shelters. The centers are both asking for community support. Anyone who can donate or adopt a pet is urged to do so.Â
