CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Residents dreaming of opening their own business can soon receive some guidance from officials at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale's Small Business Development program.

The university's ten-week "Launch That Business" course will teach participants the steps to make their business dreams a reality.

SIU says the classes will last about one to two hours a week. Participants will learn to register, finance and market a small company in hopes of making a profit. Advisors from the school's Small Business Development Center will even guide participants one-on-one through the process.

Organizers with the event say the following types of people would make good candidates for the program:

  • Those who operate an unregistered business
  • Those who have a concept and are prepared to register an LLC or establish as a Sole Proprietor
  • Those who recently established an LLC but don't know where to go next
  • Those who offer a product or service in a business

Adults 18 or older with a business or idea may register on the now. The sessions begin September 5.
