Suspect identified in early morning shooting in Carbondale

UPDATE -- 4:38 p.m. -- Carbondale police have identified a suspect in Saturday morning's shooting. 

Police identified Kaemarius K. Parks, 18, of Centralia, as the main shooting suspect. 

A Jackson County Judge issued a warrant for Parks' arrest on the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
  • Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons

Police describe Parks as a 5' 4'', 130 pounds man with short hair and a mustache. Deputies say he was last seen in a black hoodie with the Champion logo on the front and black shorts with white tennis shoes. He was headed away from the 700 block of S. Lewis Lane where the shooting occurred. 

Officials warn residents that Parks is armed and dangerous.

UPDATE -- 10:40 a.m. -- Two people were sent to a local hospital as a result of a Saturday morning shooting in Carbondale. 

Carbondale police say officers arrived on the scene on S. Lewis Lane at 6:50. Two victims were taken to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale via the Jackson County Ambulance Service. 

One of the gunshot victims has been released. The other teenager is still in treatment at the hospital. 

Carbondale Police deemed the site clear at 10:30 a.m. 

Investigators are still learning details about the situation. According to police, the incident was between two people who knew each other.

ORIGINAL STORY -- CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Police asked residents to avoid the area of a shooting early Saturday morning. 

According to police, the shooting occurred in the 700 block of S. Lewis Lane. For reference, this address aligns with The Fields apartments. 

The Carbondale Police Department sent out an emergency alert to residents at 7:08 a.m. The message said the shooting resulted in injuries. 

Details on the event remain unclear.
