GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. -- A man rests in an out-of-state hospital after his semi-truck overturned on Tuesday.Â
Deputies from the Graves County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the truck on the Purchase Parkway near the Wingo exit around 12:50 Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, officials identified the driver as Brent Howard, 52, of Greenfield, TN.Â
A release from the department stated Howard traveled North along the Parkway at the time of the crash. Howard's 2007 Sterling dump truck began to drift to the left as he approached a construction zone. Howard said the truck hit one of the construction markings, causing the flip.
Officials found Howard's truck resting on its right side. It was unloaded at the time of the crash. Its position blocked the majority of the open traffic lane.Â
Officials from the Mayfield Fire Department joined the scene to cut Howard out of the truck. The Mayfield/Graves County EMS team brought Howard to Mercy Health Paducah, which then sent him to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.Â
Traffic remained affected due to the lane shutdown for an estimated three hours, according to officials. Crews rerouted traffic off and back onto the Parkway at the 14-mile marker.
