MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. -- Authorities arrested two suspects in a reported theft involving a U-Haul on Wednesday.

According to information from the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, the investigation began on a white U-Haul pickup truck rented to Henry Ashworth, of Mayfield, and Jennifer Roper, of Paducah. Deputies believed that the pair of suspects had taken the truck with several items that allegedly were stolen from a West Paducah home.

The department said that, on Wednesday afternoon, officers with the Paducah Police Department spotted the truck and held it for deputies. Upon deputy arrival, K-9 officer "Bobi" sniffed the truck and reacted to an odor believed to be an illicit substance. A further search of the truck reportedly yielded methamphetamine, marijuana and other prescription controlled substances.

Deputies say at least one item located in the truck allegedly belonged to the home in West Paducah. This item was brought back to the home following its discovery.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office says Roper and Ashworth were both arrested without issue on the following charges:

  • Roper
    • Possession of Controlled Substance 1st degree, 1st offense (Meth)
    • Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd degree, 1st offense (Amphetamines)
    • Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree (Drug unspecified)
    • Illegal Possession of a Legend Drug
    • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

    • Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree (Drug Unspecified)
    • Possession of Marijuana
    • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The sheriff's office says more charges are expected as the investigation remains ongoing. The two suspects are currently held in the McCracken County Regional Jail awaiting trial.
