Two killed in industrial accident in Grand Tower identified, two others released from hospital

GRAND TOWER, Ill. -- Two people are dead and two others injured after an incident at the construction site of a pipeline in Grand Tower.

On Wednesday, the Jackson County Coroner's Office released the names of the victims who were killed in the incident.

Barbara L. Reid, 47 of Mississippi, and Brandon C. Durand, 43 of Louisiana, were the individuals who died.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said it happened at 4:49 p.m. on Monday when they received an emergency 911 call about an industrial accident in Grand Tower.

The incident took place near Brunkhorst Road and 20th Street in Grand Tower which is the construction site of the Kinder Morgan Natural Gas Pipeline, the sheriff's office said in a release.

Initially, reports came in as multiple people injured from the accident.

After authorities got to the scene, they said two people died with two others taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Those injured were treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Assisting with the incident was the Tower Rock Fire Department, Grand Tower Fire Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service, Union County Ambulance Service, Grand Tower Police Department and the Jackson County Coroner's Office.
