Unattended cooking fire killed woman in Kennett

KENNETT, Mo. (WSIL) -- A person is dead after a cooking-related fire burned a home in Missouri.

The Kennett Fire Department received an emergency call of a structure fire at around 9:57 a.m. Saturday at 1506 Highway 412 West.

Firefighters entered the building and rescued an occupant inside, according to KFD. Paramedics performed life saving treatment before taking the victim to the hospital.

Rowena Skelton died of injuries sustained from the fire. The State of Missouri Fire Marshal's office concluded that the fire was accidental and classified it as an unattended cooking fire.

The Fire Department and state fire marshal's office assisted in the investigation.
