Williamson County Sheriff's Office issues warning before first day of school

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Williamson County officials are reminding families how to stay safe online with the start of a new school year. 

Specifically, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office has issued some guidelines about what and what not to share in pictures of your children on the first day of school. The main takeaway is to not share too much personal information in pictures. 

What to share:

  • Smiles and happy moments
  • Fun outfits
  • New backpacks and school supplies
  • General excitement 

What not to share:

  • Last Names
  • School names
  • Identifiable landmarks (house numbers, street names, etc.)
  • School Uniforms with logos
  • Personal details (grade, teacher's name, etc.)

"Let's make sure our kids stay safe while we celebrate their new school year!" wrote the sheriff's office.
