DONATIONS: How you can help communities hit by tornadoes

Residents react to local landmarks hit by tornado in Mayfield, KY

(WSIL) -- Multiple communities are working together to help those impacted by tornadoes.Ìý

The state of Kentucky has launched their own donation campaign. As of Sunday morning the state has received more than 7,400 donations totaling $829,085.

The fund also accepts checks that can be mailed to the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, 200 Mero Street, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40622. Donors are asked to sign the memo "Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund."

To help local families celebrate the holidays amid the tragedy, the state of Kentucky has launched the Western Kentucky Toy Drive.Ìý

The goal is to collect donations of toys, books,Ìýelectronics and $25 VISA or MasterCard gift cards.

Donations will be accepted beginning Tuesday, December 14 through Saturday, December 18.Ìý

The American Red Cross

The non-profit has donated 160 blood products to hospitals in the affected areas.

Feeding America

Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland is providing ready-to-go emergency meals for victims.

Donors looking to provide the nonprofit with money for the operation can log ontoÌý.

United Way

The United Way's Kentucky branchÌýÌýfor the state's victims.

The nonprofit said the money will support "support immediate needs and long-term recovery for impacted communities."

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is now accepting monetary donations for tornado victims. You canÌýcall 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769) and designate "KY Tornado Relief" with your gift. You can also to donate.Ìý

Schnucks

Schnucks customers now have the chance to round up at the register to help tornado victims through December 19.Ìý

One hundred percent of the donations will go to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund.Ìý

When you make a purchase at the store, you can ask that your money be rounded up to the next full dollar. That money will then be donated.Ìý

GlobalGiving

GlobalGiving has launched theÌýÌýto provide urgent assistance to people impacted through 6 U.S. states, includingÌýArkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

National Disaster Distress Hotline provides immediate crisis counseling to those affected by the tornadoes in 6 local states. That number is:Ìý1-800-985-5990.

Kentucky Oaks Mall

The owners and merchants of Kentucky Oaks Mall are stepping up to help tornado victims.Ìý

Beginning Friday, December 17 individuals can to donate to the American Red Cross-Western Kentucky Chapter.ÌýThe Cafaro Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the mall’s parent company, will match donations up to $10,000.Ìý

Already, mall merchants have stepped up in their own way, generously donating clothing and other essential items for the Red Cross to distribute to tornado victims.Ìý

CAYCE, Ky/Fulton County

Fulton County Emergency Mgmt. has been contacted regarding physical relief & monetary donations for citizens of the Cayce community that were affected by the recent tornado.ÌýÌý

Physical itemsÌý(i.e. bottled water & drinks, non perishable food, hygiene products (i.e. soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, women personal hygiene item), cleaning supplies,(i.e. disinfectant wipes, cleaning brushes, bleach, sponges, rags, brooms/mops, pails, paper towels, detergent), paper products (paper plates, silverware, garbage bags, cups), work & rubber gloves should be taken to the County Office Building @Ìý2216 Myron Cory Drive - Hickman, KY.ÌýÌý

Deliveries should be made to the back of the office building. Donations are accepted from 2:00 - 8:00 Monday and then forward on Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 - 4:00.

ÌýMonetary donations may be made & donated through the Cayce Baptist Church. ÌýA special account will be set up & then distributed on a individual need & availability. CARRIER MILLS

The Village of Carrier Mills is hosting a toy drive. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Dollar General or the Wildcat Package until 9 a.m. Monday, December 20. You can also drop off toys until 4 p.m. Friday at the Carrier Mills Water Office.Ìý

COBDEN

The Cobden High School FFA Chapter will be collecting donations of pet supplies and new toys for children. They will be accepting donations until December 17.

DU QUOINÌý

The Du Quoin Fire Department is asking for donations to help storm victims in Mayfield. They'll accept household items, shelter supplies, non-perishables and more.

Donations are being accepted now through later in the week.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

Abbott EMS in Franklin County and the Benton Fire Department are accepting donations through the weekend for folks in Kentucky.Ìý

They are accepting household items, shelter supplies, non-perishables, baby supplies, personal care items and pet food/supplies.Ìý

GOREVILLE

Durham Bus Company will have a bus at the Goreville Food Market for donations beginning Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Donations such as bottled water, non-perishable food, baby items, clothes of all sizes, shoes, toiletries, feminine products, pillows, blankets, etc. can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. through Friday.Ìý

The bus will be taken to Mayfield, Kentucky around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 17.

GRAVES COUNTY

A fund for monetary donations has been set up through Independence Bank.Ìý

JOHNSTON CITY

The Johnston City City Hall will be collection donations as well. You can donate Visa money cards, new or gently used clothing, toiletries, household items, gas cards, etc.

They will be making a trip as soon as possible.Ìý

ÌýThe non-profit Operation BBQ Relief will be set up Monday to provide hot meals to anyone who needs it in Mayfield.

Mayfield Community Foundation has set up a tornado relief fund.

A food, supply, and cash donation drop-off has been established at Heartland Worship Center off I-24 Exit 7 in Paducah.

Individuals who have material donations or wish to donate cash may call 270-297-7772 or 270-331-0945.ÌýÌý

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY

A food, supply and cash donation drop-off has been established at the McCracken County Emergency Management office at 3700 Coleman Road, Paducah. It will be open until 6 p.m. tonight.ÌýThis McCracken County drop-offÌýcenter may be extended into next week, if needed.

METROPOLIS

TheÌýMetropolis Fire Station is serving as a drop off point for donations. You can drop off items at the stationÌý at 213 W. 7th Street. Items being accepted areÌýwater, non-perishable food items, blankets, cleaning supplies, toiletries, flashlights, batteries, etc. (please make sure that articles of clothing are NEW and not used as most of the communities affected are still without power and running water.)

MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY

Murray State Collegiate FFA and Murray State University Agricultural Education program are sponsoring an FFA jacket replacement fund for FFA members affected by the recent tornadoes.Ìý

The jackets will allow FFA members to compete in Spring competitions that they have been working months to prepare for.Ìý

OLIVE BRANCH

The "Horseshoe Bar and Grill" in Olive Branch is taking donations for peopleÌýwho lost their homes in the storm.

They're accepting donations until Christmas, Monday through Saturday from 10am until 9pm and Sunday's starting at 11AM.

You can donate, clothing, blankets and diapers.

POPE COUNTY

Rural Pope County Fire Protection District will be accepting donations as well.Ìý

They have a large box sitting right inside the front door of Station 1 at 64 Frank's Road to fill up with anything donated.

Those items include: toiletries, baby formula, diapers/supplies, clothing, shoes, foods, bottled water.Ìý

The donations will be taken to Mayfield Fire Department on Tuesday, December 14.

RANDOLPH COUNTY

Illinois MABAS Division 34 - Randolph County will be taking up donations for the victims.

Items needed include: Cleaning supplies, toiletries, pillows, blankets, non-perishables, and bottled water.Ìý

ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI

The St. Charles County Regional Emergency Management is accepting donations of bottled beverages, non-perishable food, animal care products and gift cards for Missouri residents impacts by storms.Ìý

You can drop those items off at the New Melle Fire Protection District Station #1, 3705 Mill Street. No clothing at this time is being accepted.Ìý

ULLIN

Shawnee Community College will be using one of it's truck driving program trucks to collect and take donations to Mayfield.Ìý

Those who wish to donate non-perishable food items, personal care items, new clothing, toys, blankets can drop off donations from Monday through Friday until 4 pm Monday, December 20th.

Donations can be made at each college location, including Anna, Cairo, Metropolis, Vienna, and Ullin.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

HireLevel is partnering withÌýlocal businesses to pay it forward and need your help. They are working to stuff a bus for tornado victims.Ìý

You can drop off donations through Wednesday at several Marion locations including: HireLevel, Natasha and Tony Stearns Country Financial office, First Southern Bank, and Black Diamond.

Christian Life Church in Herrin will be collecting items to take to Kentucky for the relief efforts.Ìý

They will be collecting items at the Herrin Kroger Monday, December 20 and Tuesday, December 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The donations will be taken on Wednesday, December 22.Ìý

The Durham Bus Company will be collecting donations until Friday, December 17 at 1 p.m.

You can drop them off at the Walmart parking lot or Durham School Services on West Cherry Street.Ìý

Marion Elks #800, 204 S. Market St, is still collecting donations for storm victims.Ìý

The Marshall County Elks Lodge told Marion's lodge they are in desperate need of these items:

Verified GoFundMe Pages

There are a number of GoFundMe pages to help those impacted by the tornadoes that have been verified by GoFundMe's Trust and Safety team.

A group of seven Louisville Food Trucks have banded together to ensure the residents and first responders of Mayfield have access to hot meals as they work to recover from the tragic tornadoes. They are set up at the Graves County High School and coordination will be done by the Emergency Management Agency through the Louisville, KY office.

Wisconsin Basketball Star Chris Vogt grew up in Mayfield and started this fundraiser to help his hometown recover from the tragedy. He says he was speechless when he saw the photos of the damage and he wants to help those impacted in any way possible.

Freelance Journalist and Founder of Explore Kentucky Gerry Seavo James is raising money to help Crystal Fox, a community organizer and counselor who also happens to be a single-mom of two kids. Fox lost her car and power to the powerful storms and is now staying in a hotel indefinitely. James met Fox when he interviewed her for a documentary he is currently working on.

Newlyweds Cody and Amanda Thomspon are high school sweethearts who just tied the knot November 13th. According to Cody's sister, the couple built their home from the ground up and now must start over from scratch after the home and nearly everything inside it was destroyed. Cody works at a local factory and Amanda is studying to become a nurse.

A Dawson Springs police officer and his family lost their home to a tornado and are still looking for their two dogs that have been missing since the storm hit. Officer Josh Travis and his wife Tara were both working when the storm hit and thankfully their children were at a babysitter's house. Their double-wide was entirely destroyed and to make matters worse their homeowner's insurance recently dropped the family after they discontinued their trailer policies.

WK Liquors and its owner Manoj are staples in the Western Kentucky University community. Most anyone who has recently attended WKU at least knows of the store or has a personal relationship with Manoj. He knew his customers by name and took the time to get to know them. Manoj's store is one of many businesses destroyed in the Bowling Green area following the storms.

Flowers Around the Corner is another Bowling Green business devastated by the storms. Tyler Janes just got this business off the ground in the Spring of 2019. Now he's lost nearly everything. The GoFundMe is to help Janes rebuild while at the same time keeping his entire staff employed.
