Traffic stop leads to multiple arrests after police find a loaded gun

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) � Carbondale Police made multiple arrests during a traffic stop on Tuesday, after discovering a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Officers reported stopping a vehicle in the 300 block of East Oak Street for a traffic violation and arrested 20-year-old Julius Word, 19-year-old Austin Dedecker, and a 17-year-old juvenile.

All three suspects were charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Dedecker and Word were taken to the Jackson County Jail, awaiting detention hearings.

Police say the juvenile was released to a parent.

Illinois law requires firearm owners to be at least 21 years old or have from a parent or guardian. 

Authorities are actively investigating the incident. They urge anyone with information to contact the City of Carbondale Police Department at (618) 549-2121.
