JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WSIL) � Two were arrested after authorities said a driver was eluding them and had suspected drugs in a vehicle.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said on March 26, at 3:20 p.m., deputies saw a vehicle leave a home in the area of Fowler School Road and Brinkley Road, which they said was believed to be involved of selling or purchasing narcotics.
Law enforcement said the driver failed to use a turn signal when turning and saw an item exit from the passenger side window.
After trying to pull the vehicle over, the suspect then tried to drive away and elude deputies and drove into Franklin County, the sheriff’s office stated.
Authorities said the vehicle pulled off the road and two rear passengers then got out of the car and surrendered to West Frankfort police.
At this point, the sheriff’s office said the suspect then kept trying to elude authorities and stopped on a dead end private road where the driver and passenger were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Joseph Worley and Whitney Scott.
Authorities said they searched the vehicle and found three used hypodermic syringes which tested positive for methamphetamine and a small amount of cannabis.
Worley was cited for the following charges�
- Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
- Reckless Conduct
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding 35 MPH+
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle
- Disobeying Stop Sign
- Driving Left of Center
- No Turn Signal
- Improper Lane Use
- Passing in a No Passing Zone.Â
Scott was cited for the following charges�
- Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
Worley and Scott were then taken to the Williamson County Jail. Â
The two rear passengers of the vehicle were reported to have been released without charges.
Deputies later looked for the item they said came from the passenger side window, but couldn’t find anything.
