The National Weather Service in Paducah has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Franklin County in south central Illinois...
Johnson County in southern Illinois...
Pulaski County in southern Illinois...
Williamson County in southern Illinois...

* Until 900 PM CDT.

* At 427 PM CDT, Local law enforcement reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 5 and 8
inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5
inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Marion, Herrin, West Frankfort, Benton, Carterville, Johnston
City, Christopher, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser, Zeigler,
Crainville, Cambria, Royalton, Energy, Goreville, Mounds, Hurst,
Valier and West City.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, including the following
areas, Alexander, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin,
Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski,
Saline, Union, Wabash, Wayne IL, White and Williamson, southwest
Indiana, including the following areas, Gibson, Pike, Posey,
Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick, western Kentucky, including the
following areas, Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian,
Crittenden, Daviess, Fulton, Graves, Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins,
Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd,
Trigg, Union KY and Webster, and southeast Missouri, including the
following areas, Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter,
Mississippi, New Madrid, Perry MO, Ripley, Scott, Stoddard and
Wayne MO.

* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water
crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding
of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are
running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Flash flooding and flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected. Radar estimates and spotter reports confirmed many
locations already having received between 4 and 10 inches,
with
locally higher amounts. Additional moderate to potentially
heavy
rainfall is expected tonight across portions of western
Kentucky
with lighter amounts elsewhere. These amounts and resultant
flooding
creates a particularly dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.One more round of moderate rainfall is expected today before we
begin to dry out. The Big Muddy River will rise above flood stage
this afternoon and crest next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...From this afternoon until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 18.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage this
afternoon to 28.5 feet early Monday morning. It will then
fall Tuesday evening. It will rise to 28.1 feet early
Wednesday afternoon. It will then fall again but remain above
flood stage.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
28.6 feet on 05/02/2017.

Michael Herrin Memorial Soccer Tournament
Michael Herrin Memorial Tournament returning to Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- An upcoming soccer tournament will bring athletes from the tri-state area to Harrisburg.Ìý

The 13th annual Michael Herrin Memorial soccer tournament will take place on November 13th and 14th at the middle school's soccer field with the same namesake.Ìý
Ìý
Michael passed away in 2001 as a result of a car accident. He was just 15 at the time and found soccer to be his passion.
Ìý
The sophomore played for travel leagues going as far away as Wales and played a huge role in bringing soccer to the Bull dogs.Ìý
Ìý
Soccer tournament will bring hundreds of athletes to Harrisburg
Greg McCulloch, who is the tournament's director and SYSA President, says around 30 teams are entered into the competition including six local groups.Ìý

He believes that it gives participants a bit of a challenge to look forward to.Ìý
Ìý
"They enjoy being able to play some teams that they normally wouldn't get to see from Effingham area, all the way down to Metropolis," he explains. "We even sometimes see teams in from Missouri and Kentucky."Ìý
Local athlete shares why she participates in the Michael Herrin Tournament
One of those players is Hannah Rorer, who is an 8th grade student at the Harrisburg Middle School. She's been playing soccer since the 1st grade and has participated in several Michael Herrin Memorial Tournaments.Ìý

Some of the action will also take place at the Bill Rice Memorial Soccer complex as the games usually bring in about a thousand spectators.Ìý

One person who is sure to be in the crowd is Dr. Roger Herrin, who started the tournament to honor his son.Ìý
Local father works to keep his son's memory alive through soccer
Roger often wonders what his son would think of this event if he were alive today.Ìý
Ìý
"You have no idea how many times I think about that," he adds. "When I get up in the morning and go to bed at night. When I go out and see the kids. You know Michael has now been gone for 20 years, even though the tournament has been 13-14 years. Michael has been gone for 20."

This year, Roger is giving a free t-shirt to all participants in the tournament and is providing a free meal to the athletes on one of the game days.Ìý
