CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL)â€ As temperatures drop and the holiday season nears, ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois University Carbondale is stepping up to support its students and community. In honor of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the university is hosting a drive to collect winter essentials, including new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.
The effort is led by SIU’s Higher Education Resources and Opportunities for Salukis in Need (HEROES) program, which is dedicated to assisting students facing challenging circumstances. Donations are being accepted now through Dec. 18 at two convenient locations: the Student Health Center Information Desk and the HEROES Headquarters, located on the lower level of the Student Center.
Items of all sizes are welcome and will be distributed through the HEROES store to students in need, which also extends to their children. This initiative ensures that Salukis have access to warm clothing during the cold months ahead.
