Weather Alert

.Light to moderate rain will continue through early Sunday before
gradually coming to an end. After the rain ends, it will take
several hours before the flood waters begin to recede along creeks
and streams. River levels will remain elevated or continue to rise
over the next
several days.

...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following
counties, Franklin, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry,
Pulaski, Union, Wayne and Williamson.

* WHEN...Until 900 AM CDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 856 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain. Flooding is already occurring in the
warned area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in
the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Carbondale, Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort,
Murphysboro, Benton, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville,
Fairfield, Anna, Johnston City, Mcleansboro, Christopher,
Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser and Zeigler.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Do not drive around barriers and find alternate routes if flooding
is observed.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, including the following
areas, Alexander, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin,
Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski,
Saline, Union, Wabash, Wayne IL, White and Williamson, southwest
Indiana, including the following areas, Gibson, Pike, Posey,
Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick, western Kentucky, including the
following areas, Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian,
Crittenden, Daviess, Fulton, Graves, Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins,
Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Muhlenberg, Todd,

* WHEN...Through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water
crossings may be flooded. Extensive street flooding and flooding
of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are
running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Flash flooding and flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected. Radar estimates and spotter reports confirmed many
locations already having received between 4 and 10 inches,
with
locally higher amounts. Additional moderate to potentially
heavy
rainfall is expected tonight across portions of western
Kentucky
with lighter amounts elsewhere. These amounts and resultant
flooding
creates a particularly dangerous situation.

Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.One more round of moderate rainfall is expected today before we
begin to dry out. The Big Muddy River will rise above flood stage
this afternoon and crest next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 18.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage this
afternoon to 28.5 feet early Monday morning. It will then
fall Tuesday evening. It will rise to 28.1 feet early
Wednesday afternoon. It will then fall again but remain above
flood stage.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
28.6 feet on 05/02/2017.

Wright-Way Rescue receives $70,000 grant to help low-income pet owners

MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Wright-Way Rescue is re-opening their low-cost community vet clinic and announced the launch of their new Annual Wellness Packages.

The packages, supported by a $70,000 grant from the Millstein Foundation for Animal Welfare, are designed to support pet owners demonstrating financial need by providing annual wellness packages at reduced cost as well as treatment for outpatient illnesses and surgeries on a sliding scale.

The goal is to help pets stay in the home they already have. Financial need is one of the top reasons that families bring their pets to shelters.

Christy Anderson, the Founder and Executive Director of Wright-Way Rescue believes that preventing pets from being surrendered to shelters is an important counterpart to rescuing those that are homeless. She says, “Adoptable pets are dying in facilities throughout the United States simply because they do not have homes. Every pet we can help keep in the loving home it already has is one more life that has been saved, just by preventing it from entering a shelter in the first place. Proving discounted medical care to low-income families is a win-win for pets, their families, shelters, and the communities they serve.�

The packages sponsored by the Millstein Veterinary ProjectⓇ include a physical exam from one of Wright-Way Rescue’s veterinarians, diagnostic testing for heartworms in dogs or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) Testing in cats, vaccination, deworming, and a microchip for pets who don’t have one.
