SIU basketball picked to finish ninth in the MVC

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Five members of the 2023-2024 SIU Men's Basketball team announced they are entering the transfer portal.

These players are Clarence Rupert, Scottie Ebube, AJ Ferguson, Jarrett Hensley, and Cade Hornecker.

They all made this announcement via social media on Sunday. This makes seven total players from last year's team who have entered the portal since head Coach Bryan Mullins was fired on March 8th.

Ferguson averaged 8.8 rebounds per game, which was fourth best on the team. Rupert averaged 7.5 points, as well as a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. Ebube averaged 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Hensley averaged 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Hornecker did not play this past season.

At the time of publication, SIU only has three players with eligibility for next season on the roster. They are senior guard Jovan Stulic, sophomore guard Trey Miller, and freshman guard Sheridan Sharp. These three combined for 6.0 points per game.

Junior guard Troy D'Amico and freshman guard Kennard Davis announced their intentions to enter the portal directly after the season.

The transfer portal officially opens on Monday, meaning the players can start meeting with other schools until the opening date.

The NCAA Tournament begins on Tuesday. Teams cannot contact any players whose season is currently still ongoing.
