Area baseball and softball teams scramble to fill schedules

WSIL– With the wet and rainy weather we’ve had this spring canceling several match-ups earlier in the year, area high school softball and baseball teams have been left in a mad scramble to fill their schedules before the end of the regular season.

Goreville, Trico, and Vienna softball and baseball teams all coming to agreements on meeting in Goreville for a quick round robin to fill the void Monday.

Goreville softball starting the day with a 3-1 win at Carterville in nine innings, before traveling back home to Goreville to beat Trico 13-0 in five innings.

Trico would be beat Vienna 13-12 in nine innings.

On the baseball side of things in Goreville, the Blackcats started the day with a 7-5 win over Vienna.

In the second game on the day, Nick Compton hit three homeruns, bringing in six RBIs to lead the Trico Pioneers to a 14-4 win over Vienna.

Then in the final game on the night Monday. Goreville beat Trico 9-1.

"It’s been one of the wettest years ever they said, so I believe we getting in one or two games a week, got to get these conference games in with regional time coming up, so we all agreed, Trico and Vienna to meet in the middle here. It’s real hard, because you trying to line your pitching up, with the pitch count rule you know? So it limits some people, and it’s kind of tough trying to find umpires, they need notice too. So it takes a lot of work to get these games lined up," said Goreville head baseball coach Shawn Tripp.
